Shades of Blue - Thoughts and writing in relation to both my Honours thesis on Jazz and Identity in American Modernist literature, and my interest in jazz and literature more generally

Reconfiguration

I’m probably going to be changing my blog from here on in. While I dig looking through pictures of my musical heroes, with some good tunes to accompany the experience, it’s a rather pointless endeavour to forever reblog.

I’m in my 4th year of an English literature degree, and currently writing an Honours thesis on jazz and identity in American Modernist literature. That is, jazz as a tool for identity formation, reflection or promotion. From now you will most likely find snippets of my writing as I work through this task. Having a blog will help me remain accountable for a, largely, self-driven undertaking. I also hope to facilitate discussion with my “worthy constituents” here on Tumblr, as I know there are many who I follow and who (hopefully) follow me, that are actively involved in critical thought in regard to jazz, literature, representation, identity, race and such.

It is probably a good idea, then, to put a face to this blog for the sake of humanising the ‘once reblog machine’ that was ‘Shades of Blue’. I’ll post a picture. I’ll be sticking with the blogs name, as I think it is still relevant to various identities and representations.

Shaun McRoberts
